About Custom House Studios + Gallery

Home to seven professional artist workspace studios, two state of the art galleries and an art printmaking workshop / studio, the historic building was developed to support and promote emerging and established contemporary practitioners of visual arts from Co Mayo, the West of Ireland and beyond, through the provision of affordable artist studios and by exhibiting the very best in Irish Contemporary Visual Art. Custom House Studios aims to sustain and develop local, regional and international initiatives and to promote research and community outreach projects. The artist founded, led and centred programme maximises opportunities for artists at all stages of their careers and endeavours to foster and support professional development opportunities for associate artists.

Exhibition Opportunities

Chance to propose an exhibition for one of our state of the art galleries overlooking Clew Bay in Westport Quay. Group and solo exhibitons will be considered. Selection made by peer panel of independent artists.

Studio Workspaces

Custom House Studios + Gallery is home to seven wonderful artist workspace studios which can be allocated to artists for up to three years of tenancy at extremely affordable rates. Proposals for studio space will be considered for any professional practicing artist. Selection made by peer panel independent artists. Artists occupying can avail of printmaking facilities onsite also.

Exhibition Applicants

Please submit:

  • a concise cover letter;
  • a one page CV; (one for each member of a proposed group exhibition)
  • an exhibition proposal (can be in early stages of development if it is for a body of work-in-progress);
  • no more than 10 images of work;
  • no more than 4 links to audio / moving image work
  • letter of reference or two referee contacts

Studio Applicants

Please Submit:

  • a concise cover letter;
  • a one page CV;
  • a studio proposal to include a concise professional development statement and aspirations for the three year studio occupancy;
  • no more than 10 images of work;
  • no more than 4 link to audio / moving image work
  • letter of reference or two referee contacts

How / Where / What to Submit

Please submit all materials by email to admin@customhousestudios.ie with email title: Open Call 2024 Studios and / or Exhibitions Application deadline for application is end of day 30 November 2024. If applying for both an exhibition and a studio please submit both proposals together with one copy of each of the additional required materials. Applications will only be accepted in PDF format.

Printmaking Course with Susie Quinn

artist and printmaker, for a six week
evening printmaking course. Susie is a full-time practicing artist and teacher.
