In this new site-specific sculpture for the Westport Quays, the work takes inspiration from the landscape / settings. Initially assemblage based work, using thrown away materials like packaging and corrugated cardboard, it is then transformed through casting into metal and allowing the material to suggest something new. In this case, the die cut paper with its beautiful ( machine made) 3D honeycomb structure continues to appear fluid and light although now transformed into another (handmade) process and medium, bronze. By allowing it to occupy a different environment the relationship between object and space offers new meaning.

Vivian graduated from the University of Ulster, Belfast with a MA in Fine Art in 2000. She teaches sculpture, drawing and bronze casting at the Centre for Continuing Education in the National College of Art and Design. Vivian is a practising artist and specialises in sculpture, installation and video media. Her solo art exhibitions have included ‘Internal Logic’, The Concourse Installation at the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council in 2003, the Triskel Arts Centre and the Temple Bar studios in 1997. She also participates in group exhibitions such as ‘Sculpture In Context’ at Dublin’s Botanical Gardens. In 1998, Vivian won an Iontas Sculpture Award for an untitled piece of work and in 2001, she received an Eigse Work of Promise Award for her sculpture ‘Breath’.
