Biography

Imelda Kilbane is an Achill Island-based visual artist working from her studio at the Custom House. Her multidisciplinary practice explores themes of resilience, transformation, memory, and emotional landscape through an intuitive process of layering, material exploration, and visual storytelling.

Influenced by her background in Art Psychotherapy, Kilbane's work incorporates painting, collage, assemblage, text, and tactile surfaces to create poetic visual narratives that navigate the intersections between vulnerability and strength. Her recent work explores processes of collecting, cutting, stitching, and reconstruction, drawing on found imagery, personal symbolism, and textured materials.

Kilbane holds a BA in Fine Art and has exhibited extensively throughout Ireland in both solo and group exhibitions, including at Claremorris Gallery. Her work is held in both public and private collections, including Mayo County Council and Crawford College of Art.
