Pauline Garavan

Pauline Garavan is a painter and sculptor and uses photography extensively in her practice.
Her paintings are in oils, usually in a small format and noted for their attention to detail.
Her sculptures employ a variety of non-traditional materials. Her work is a response to
nature, often in its minute and subtle expression as mushrooms, lichen, stones, leaf litter,
water and more; yet it also engages with the human experience: climate change, polar
exploration, environmental conflict, the rusted roofs of abandoned homes. She researches
the topic she is working on which allows her to make work that is grounded in knowledge
and understanding.
She has exhibited widely in solo, group and selected shows in Ireland, Austria, England, USA, China, and the Netherlands. Her work is represented in the collections of Mayo County
Council, and the Shackleton Experience Museum, Athy, Co Kildare. She received a Tyrone
Guthrie Residency Bursary from Mayo County Council, and was an artist-in-residence with
the AIR-Niederösterreich Fellowship Programme in Austria. She has received Bursaries from Mayo Arts Service, and The Arts Council of Ireland.
Her work is held in public and private collections in Ireland, England, France, USA. She is a
member of Interface Inagh; Polar Artists Collective; and a professional member of Visual
Artists Ireland.
