Bernadette Bohan is a visual artist based in Castlebar, County Mayo, with strong roots in the Quays area of Westport. She holds a Bachelor of Art in Art and Design from Atlantic Technological University Castlebar, (formally known as GMIT) graduating in 2013. Her work primarily explores the human face through painting and draws from a wide range of source material including media imagery, historical artworks, photographs, and
sketches. By examining and manipulating elements such as form, line, shape, value, and colour, Bohan reinterprets these images to create new, thought-provoking compositions.
Her practice involves a deliberate process of distortion to engage viewers in fresh visual experiences. Acrylic is her preferred medium for exploring her artist process. Bohan’s work has been recognised in several exhibitions. She was a finalist in the RDS Student Art Awards in 2012 and had a piece selected for the Royal Hibernian Academy’s Annual Exhibition in 2019. In addition, she exhibited at the Customs House Gallery in Westport in July 2015.
